Good News: The Nine-Month Favor

“The strong bond of friendship is not always a balanced equation; friendship is not always about giving and taking in equal shares. Instead, friendship is grounded in a feeling that you know exactly who will be there for you when you need something, no matter what or when.”
~ Simon Sinek

I’m still receiving stories about people reaching out to help other people — good news that we need to hear right now. This latest is from good friend Dave Bodner.

This is a heart- warming story that shows the positive force of humanity and the power of friendships.

Pam and Julie have been friends for twenty- five years after meeting in junior high school. Pam had a difficult childhood and was diagnosed with cancer as a child in the 1980’s. She survived, however the chemo did long term damage to her reproductive organs. Pam and her husband tried adopting but they became frustrated with the long wait of the adoption process.

One day Pam and Julie were having coffee and Pam was venting that everything was just at a stand-still with adopting a child. Julie knew that Pam and her husband were wonderful people, so she blurted out, “Well, go find an egg, get it with your husband’s sperm and cook it in my oven!” Pam replied incredulously “seriously?” Julie paused for a moment and then joked, “yes, but let me run it by my husband first!” Surprisingly, Julie’s husband agreed!

Julie then met with an IVF doctor to make sure she was qualified as a “gestational carrier”. Good news, she was eligible! Next, she started daily injections. An ultrasound confirmed twins!
Pam accompanied Julie to every Dr.’s appointment and surprised Julie with whatever her latest craving was, from fruit smoothies to egg McMuffins. The pregnancy went full term without complications and two healthy twin girls were born.

One year later, Julie remarks that the parents are simply “amazing” and she is so thrilled that she was able to help her friend fulfill her dream of becoming a parent.
